A letter from the Founder.
I’ve always wanted to do something that would help others. I’ve always found a sense of meaning and belonging when it comes to being there for people. At the same time, I’ve often longed for that in return. I’ve been blessed with an amazing support system, but I think a lot of us, if not most of us, know how our minds can make us think that we have nobody. In reality, some battles are meant for us to take them on alone. That being said, that doesn’t mean others can’t relate.
I started this journey by taking both of those desires and implementing them into clothing designs. I enjoy clothing that stands out, that gives a little story into the person wearing it and so I decided to make my own. Eventually, in an effort to both express my thoughts and experiences as well as use those experiences to hopefully help others realize that they’re not as alone as they think, I started a Podcast. At first, I was attempting to start one from scratch, something on its own, but nothing felt right. Then it dawned on me that I was starting the Podcast with the same intention I have with my designs. So at that point I felt it would both be appropriate as well as beneficial to launch the Podcast under my Shatter & Breathe umbrella.
When people ask me what this brand is about, I find it hard to answer. It’s so many things and so many emotions and I get so caught up in those emotions and the anxiety that I struggle to explain it very well. I came up with the name Shatter & Breathe because I would not have gotten to the place I am today without having gone through all that I have gone through. I have felt the soil of rock bottom, I have felt the weight of the world and I have been broken to pieces. Through all of that though, I’ve found wisdom, the power to heal myself and the perseverance to never give up. As the stars show brighter as the lights go out, we find ourselves through the darkness we’ve conquered. Shatter & Breathe represents the idea that sometimes we have to break before we can finally catch our breath. We have to fall in order to get back up, we have to feel pain before we can know what healing feels like. We have to walk through sorrow to understand how wonderful joy is, and sometimes we have to shatter before we can truly breathe.
